Watch and edit movie using a timeline

You edit your video by defining the length of the segments you've chosen. Build your project by dragging and dropping individual clips onto the timeline.
Most video-editing software lets you add special effects, such as overlays. Just don't go overboard.

Tip: Transitions between segments can help two different segments fit together better. You can use music, fades, titles, etc. You may want to add small clips of video that make the transition from one segment to another more interesting.

Titles, audio and finishing touches

If you just couldn't edit down the segments to 20-30 minutes, think about adding some memorable titles and/or narration to each segment to keep your audience engaged (awake) during the entire movie.

Tip: If you don't have a clear or distinctive voice for narration, consider writing down what the narration should be for each segment and then have a family or friend record the video on your PC.

Sometimes, titles and narration can be overused and is more time-consuming than using music as a background to the action. Music can really set the right mood--consider just adding some memorable songs to play over segments that don't need explanation.

The last step to your home video? Again, consider your audience before showing your video on the Web. Show your video to one other person who can give you some feedback for any final edits. Another point of view can save you from a joke falling flat or worse -- offending any sensitive viewers.
